On January 23, 2026, with the sponsorship of Forestrends, Tay Nguyen University, in collaboration with the Vietnam Agro-Forestry Policy Research Network, organized a workshop on the topic: “Updating New Knowledge on Forestry Policies in Training Programs”.

The Vietnam Agro-Forestry Policy Research Network is an academic-policy cooperation forum officially launched on October 22, 2025, at Vietnam National University of Forestry. The Network was established with the goal of building an ecosystem of “Knowledge – Policy – Action” by connecting researchers, management agencies, businesses, and communities; promoting evidence-based policy making; and simultaneously updating and analyzing international policies to support the sustainable development of Vietnam's agro-forestry sector. The Network currently gathers nearly 200 members from training institutions, research institutes, international organizations, and development partners in the agro-forestry sector, including: Vietnam National University of Forestry, Nong Lam University Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Nguyen University, Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences, Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Trends, RECOFTC, along with international support programs from Norway and the United Kingdom.

Although newly launched, since early 2025, the Network has carried out numerous in-depth academic activities and policy consultations, such as: workshops on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), research on forest carbon markets and carbon rights, and organizing online forums to share data on sustainable forest management and green economy.
The workshop aimed to facilitate academic exchange, update new trends and policies in the forestry sector, contribute to materializing research recommendations into specific policies for agro-forestry development, and enhance the quality of training and scientific research at higher education institutions.

Attending the workshop were representatives of leaders from universities, research institutes, and centers that are members of the Vietnam Agro-Forestry Policy Research Network; representatives of state management agencies in forestry; businesses and employers in Dak Lak province; along with experts, scientists, staff, lecturers, and students from the Silviculture department of Tay Nguyen University.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Niem – Vice Rector of Tay Nguyen University and Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien – Rector of Vietnam National University of Forestry – Head of the Network emphasized: in the context of increasing climate change and Vietnam's commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, the forestry sector faces many new opportunities and challenges. Timely updating of forestry policies in training programs is not only important for management work but also a crucial foundation for future forestry engineers.

The workshop focused on discussing three main contents: (1) Sharing new global trends in environmental governance and their implications for Vietnam, clarifying the opportunities and risks of climate change for forest resource governance and Vietnamese businesses in the context of globalization; (2) Introducing resource governance training programs from universities representing the three regions, along with contributions from management agencies and employers; (3) Discussing directions for updating the forestry training curriculum in the coming period and a collaborative implementation plan among member units of the Network.

The workshop served as a practical forum, contributing to strengthening the connection between training – research – policy practice, while affirming Tay Nguyen University's role in the cooperation network for research and training high-quality forestry human resources, meeting the requirements for sustainable development in the new era.
