Vietnam’s rubber sector is currently one of the core agroforestry export, with an area of over 900,000 hectares and an annual latex output of more than 1.1 million tons. Vietnam ranks third in the world in natural rubber exports, of which around 8–10% is shipped to the European Union (EU). However, more than 60% of the rubber plantation area are managed by smallholders, whose fragmented and small-scale production, together with a lack of information management tools. Therefor, compliance with the EUDR requirements has become a major challenge.
In addition, Vietnam’s rubber supply chain is exposed to risks from: the import of raw materials with unclear origins from neighboring countries, as well as the collection and theft of latex in certain production areas, both of which undermine supply chain transparency. As the EUDR requires that all products exported to the EU market demonstrate lawful origin and deforestation free, the establishment of a transparent, traceable rubber supply chain — capable of verifying geolocation down to the plantation level — has become a critical prerequisite for safeguarding Vietnam’s international standing and preserving market share .
