On the afternoon of September 20, 2024, the EUDR – Forestry Network hosted an online webinar "Restructuring Supply Chains to Comply with EUDR." The keynote speaker was Mr. Nguyễn Công Ấn, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ecotechnology 2A Joint Stock Company. Facilitated by Dr. Tô Xuân Phúc, Executive Director of Forest Trends in Vietnam, the webinar was successfully conducted with the participation of over 180 delegates from businesses and associations nationwide.
The webinar focused on discussing the actions businesses need to implement and the challenges they may face when participating in supply chains to comply with EUDR. While some large enterprises in the wood, rubber, and coffee industries have already adopted solutions to adapt to EUDR, many businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, are unsure where to start. Currently, businesses are highly concerned with the fundamental requirements of EUDR and are seeking guidance on information provision and technical support to ensure compliance.
According to representatives from associations, businesses, and organizations, each sector currently exhibits varying levels of readiness in complying with EUDR. Specifically, the coffee sector has established systems of cooperatives and linked supply regions to provide materials for export enterprises, making it easier to share information and trace supply chains back to farming households. Meanwhile, the rubber sector has focused on obtaining FSC and PEFC certifications for plantation-scale rubber, giving it an advantage in geographic traceability of raw materials. However, smallholder rubber producers face challenges due to the lack of established databases and information systems.
